Former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has lashed out at Team India batter KL Rahul, who has been going through a rough patch lately. He opined that the opener’s selection in the Indian team is based on favoritism and not performance. Venkatesh Prasad expressed that the right-handed batter’s performance has been well below par.
Last year, KL Rahul scored 822 runs in 33 innings for Team India across formats at an average of 25.68. He failed to make an impact in the recently concluded Test match against Australia. Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter to share his thoughts on KL Rahul’s performance. He expressed that the 30-year-old has had an ordinary international career so far. Venkatesh Prasad tweeted,
“I have a lot of regard for KL Rahul’s talent and ability, but sadly his performances have been well below par. A test average of 34 after 46 tests and more than 8 years in international cricket is ordinary. Can’t think of many who have been given so many chances.”
“Especially when there are so many waiting in the wings & in top form. Shubhman Gill is in sublime form, Sarfaraz has been scoring tons in FC cricket, and many who deserve a chance ahead of Rahul. Some are just lucky to be given chances endlessly till they succeed while some aren’t allowed to,” he added.
KL Rahul has been consistently inconsistent: Venkatesh Prasad
Former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad further expressed that KL Rahul being the vice-captain has made the matter worse. He opined that Ravichandran Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara, or Ravindra Jadeja should have been the choices for the vice-captaincy post. Venkatesh Prasad expressed that KL Rahul has failed to convert his potential into performances. He added that former cricketers refrain from criticism in fear of losing out on IPL contracts.
“Rahul’s selection is not based on performance but on favoritism. Has been Consistently inconsistent and for someone who has been around for 8 years not converted potential into performances. One of the reasons why many ex-cricketers aren’t vocal despite seeing such favoritism is the chances of losing out on potential IPL gigs. They wouldn’t want to rub the captain of a franchisee the wrong way, as in today’s age most people like yes men and blind approvers. Often well-wishers are your best critics but times have changed & people don’t want to be told the truth,” tweeted Venkatesh Prasad.
