‘Knew There Was Something Special’: AB De Villiers Makes A Big Statement About India’s Talented Youngster

Former South Africa batter AB de Villiers showered praise on India’s rising star, Yashasvi Jaiswal, following his outstanding debut performance in the Test series against the West Indies in the Caribbean. Jaiswal’s exceptional century in his first international match impressed cricketing circles and grabbed de Villiers’ attention, who had noticed his potential during the IPL.

Expressing admiration for Jaiswal’s abilities, de Villiers highlighted that it is uncommon for a young player to make his debut in Test cricket and score a century right at the top of the batting order.

“I sensed something extraordinary in him.”

He commended the left-hander’s ability to read the ball and the remarkable time he takes to play his shots, which sets him apart as a special talent. Proving his worth in the debut game, Jaiswal’s remarkable knock of 171 off 387 balls earned him accolades and etched his name in the record books.

He became India’s 17th batsman to score a century on Test debut, and his feat of facing the most balls on a Test debut established his dominance. Additionally, Jaiswal became the fifth youngest player to score a 150 on debut in Test cricket.

Jaiswal’s record-breaking partnership with captain Rohit Sharma in his debut Test was instrumental in India’s convincing victory by an innings and 141 runs against the West Indies at Windsor Park, Dominica. His outstanding performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.

De Villiers praised the young cricketer’s tall left-handed style, remarking that Jaiswal’s solid technique makes him less susceptible to pace bowlers. He further emphasized that the 21-year-old possesses ample time to make crucial decisions while facing both pace and spin, indicating his versatility and cricketing acumen.

The former South African skipper expressed his delight in witnessing Jaiswal’s remarkable century and hailed him as a talented prospect for Team India’s future.

De Villiers’ appreciation of Jaiswal’s abilities and potential showcases the young batsman’s promising career trajectory and the positive impact he is likely to have on Indian cricket in the years to come.
