Kuldeep Yadav Surpasses Anil Kumble To Become The Quickest Indian Spinner To Reach 150 ODI Wickets

Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been in exceptional form in limited-overs cricket, and he continued to demonstrate his brilliance in the ongoing Asia Cup, emerging as a match-winner for his team on consecutive days.

Kuldeep Yadav accomplished this milestone in a mere 88 matches. His outstanding performances not only contributed to India’s consecutive victories but also marked a significant milestone in his cricketing journey.

During the Asia Cup encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan, Kuldeep Yadav’s mesmerizing bowling spell resulted in a five-wicket haul. He exhibited finesse and control, perplexing the Pakistani batsmen and leading India to a crucial victory on the reserve day.

However, he didn’t halt there. In the subsequent match against Sri Lanka, Kuldeep once again showcased his talent by taking four wickets, playing a pivotal role in defending India’s modest total of 213 runs.

These outstanding wicket-taking performances not only secured victories for India but also represented a remarkable milestone for the spinner.

Kuldeep Yadav reached the landmark of 150 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs) in just 88 matches, establishing himself as the quickest Indian spinner to achieve this feat. He surpassed the legendary Anil Kumble, who achieved the same feat in 106 matches.

On a broader international scale for spin bowling, Kuldeep now stands as the fourth-fastest spinner to reach this milestone, trailing only Saqlain Mushtaq (78 matches), Rashid Khan (80 matches), and Ajantha Mendis (84 matches).

The speediest to reach 150 ODI wickets among spinners:

78 – Saqlain Mushtaq

80 – Rashid Khan

84 – Ajantha Mendis

88 – Kuldeep Yadav

89 – Imran Tahir

Rohit Sharma has expressed great admiration for Kuldeep Yadav

In the interview after the match, India’s captain Rohit Sharma spoke highly of the left-arm spinner, stating that:

“For the past year or so bowling really really well. He has done a lot of hard work on his rhythm. He went back to the drawing board and worked on it. The ball is coming out nicely and you can see the results in the last 10 ODIs.”
