The International Cricket Council (ICC) has allowed Brandon King to replace Kyle Meyers for the Twenty20 World Cup, after King withdrew due to side pressure during the Super 8 against England.

“Event Technical Committee for the ICC.” Men’s Twenty20 World Cup has approved left-arm spinner Kyle Meyers to replace Brandon King in the West Indies squad. Their replacements require the approval of the Event Technical Committee before players are officially added to the team,” the ICC announced.

Meyers, a left-handed opener, will join his neck on Saturday and will be involved in the remainder of the tournament. King was in exceptional form in Wednesday’s game against England, scoring 23 off just 12 balls in the powerplay and laying a solid foundation for a potential total of more than 200.

He hit a massive 101-metre six off Reece Topley, requiring a substitution. However, King injured the 13th ball of the innings while attempting a shot against Sam Karn. He collapsed after being attacked in the street and had to leave the street while West Indies doctors left.

Shimron Heitmyer stepped in as a replacement after King failed to field after England were 181 runs off. Cricket West Indies later confirmed that King had a rough side. Despite King’s efforts, the West Indies lost, with Johnny Bairstow and Philip Salt leading England to an eight-wicket victory.

King’s injury greatly affects West Indies’ chances of winning the title, as he has been their leading run-scorer in T20Is since the start of 2023, amassing 651 runs in 23 innings, including four fifties instead than Meyers 2024 has done admirable scoring

The West Indies will now look to regroup and adjust their strategies with Meyers stepping in. Coach Phil Simmons expressed confidence in Meyers’ ability to make an impact, citing his experience and skill as a versatile cricketer. Fans and analysts will be keenly watching how the team adapts to this sudden change as they continue their campaign in the tournament.
