Labuschagne Called Up For India ODIs As Green Withdraws With Side Soreness

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the upcoming ODIs against India due to a side soreness, with Marnus Labuschagne named as his replacement. The injury has been classified as ‘low grade,’ and Cricket Australia has opted for a cautious approach, considering Green’s key role in their Ashes plans.

Green will miss the ODIs on October 19, 23, and 25, but is expected to return for Western Australia’s next Sheffield Shield match starting October 28. He made his competitive bowling comeback in last week’s Shield game—the first since his back surgery last year—taking a wicket in a four-over spell.

Cricket Australia confirmed that this latest issue is unrelated to the surgery he underwent last October.

“Green will complete a short period of rehabilitation and is tracking to return to play in round three of the Sheffield Shield to continue his preparation for the Ashes,” CA said in a statement this morning.

Labuschagne Returns To ODI Squad After Strong Domestic Form Ahead Of India Series

Marnus Labuschagne makes his return to the ODI squad on the back of strong form, having scored two of his four centuries for Queensland in the 50-over format. He had initially been left out after managing scores of just 1 and 1 in the home ODIs against South Africa in August. This update marks Australia’s third change ahead of the series opener against India.

Josh Phillippe replaces Josh Inglis, who is still recovering from a calf strain, while Adam Zampa will miss the Perth opener due to family reasons. From the second match onwards, Australia will have Zampa, Carey, and Inglis available for selection.

Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc.

Inclusions from second ODI onwards: Adam Zampa, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis
