Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, the Indian Cricket team defeated Australia in the second quarterfinal of played at Ahmedabad. Australian captain Ricky Pointing won the toss and decided to bat first. A brilliant 104 by Ricky Pointing, Brad Haddin 53, David Hussey quickfire cameo of 38 helped them post a total of 260 for 6 in 50 overs.

Chasing the target of 261 runs to win, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar added 44 runs for the opening wicket. The master blaster, Sachin and Gambhir scored half-centuries.
The Indian team was struggling at 187 for 5. Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina added 74 unbeaten runs for the 6th wicket to help Men in Blue beat Australia by 5 wickets with 14 balls to spare. Yuvraj Singh remained not out on 57 while Raina remained not out on 34 to help India qualify for the semi-finals.Â
