The ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) is currently grappling with a rather unusual and noteworthy issue. The R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, which serves as the venue for the matches, has encountered an intriguing problem â the presence of snakes during two separate matches, creating an unexpected and potentially hazardous scenario.
The most recent occurrence took place on a Saturday, during a match between B-Love Kandy and Jaffna Kings. A viral video circulating on social media captured a snake making its way onto the field as the Jaffna Kings were in the midst of their chase.
The serpent was observed leisurely moving across the ground, prompting a reaction from Kandy pacer Isuru Udana. Udana, upon spotting the snake, became visibly alarmed and narrowly avoided stepping on it, swiftly retreating from the area. It was indeed a fortunate escape for the cricketer.

Subsequently, another snake was spotted wriggling towards the electric wires situated along the boundary line, causing concern among the cameramen stationed there. The social media footage depicted two cameramen maintaining a safe distance from the snake, leaving their designated work area temporarily vacant.
During the match between Jaffna Kings and B-Love Kandy, with Jaffna chasing a target of 179, the snakes made their second appearance. At that juncture, Jaffna Kings were positioned at 140 for 5 in 17.1 overs, and the players Shoaib Malik (41* off 27) and Thisara Perera (29* off 16) were in the midst of a valuable partnership. Despite their efforts, Jaffna Kings fell short by 8 runs in the end, leading to their defeat against Kandy.
This isn’t the first instance of snakes causing a disruption during an LPL match at the R Premadasa Stadium. In a prior incident on July 31, during the second game of the season between Galle Titans and Dambulla Aura, a snake was observed slithering across the field, momentarily halting the match.
