Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made headlines by breaking the bank with a record-setting bid of Rs 27 crore to secure India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Pant became the most expensive player ever bought at the auction, surpassing the previous record set by Punjab Kings for IPL 2024-winning captain Shreyas Iyer, who was sold for Rs 26.75 crore.
With Nicholas Pooran already retained, LSG focused on building a strong leadership core. They brought in international talents like David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram, all of whom bring valuable captaincy experience.
The franchise secured two Indian seamers for high prices: Avesh Khan for Rs 9.75 crore and Akash Deep for Rs 8 crore. They also added South Africa’s David Miller for Rs 7.5 crore and his teammate Aiden Markram for Rs 2 crore. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was acquired for Rs 3.4 crore.
In total, Lucknow Super Giants bought 19 players during the auction, making history by signing Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, the highest amount ever spent on a player in IPL history.
