Maharashtra cricketer, Amol Kolpe, was arrested by the Baramati City Police last Saturday, June 3, in an age-fudging case, as per reports. He was on a three-day police custody remand and now has been sent to 14-day magisterial custody by a Baramati court. The cricketer can move a plea for regular bail after arrest.
According to a report by the Times of India, Amol Kolpe submitted his documents for the qualifying round of the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s U19 invitation league matches held in January earlier this year. His documents stated his birth date as September 2007. However, after an inquiry, it was revealed that his old documents mention his date of birth as February 15, 1999.
Following this, Nana Satav, a representative of the Karbhari Club, which was in the same group as Amol Kolpe’s club, filed a complaint to the police. The complainant alleged that Kolpe submitted bogus documents to fudge his age. Three other people have also been named in the FIR, who has approached the court for anticipatory bail.
Inspector Sunil Mahadik, speaking to the TOI, said, “We questioned the boy on hiding his real age and later arrested him. On Sunday, a magisterial court had ordered his three-day custodial remand which ended on Tuesday. Now that he has been sent to magisterial custody, he can seek regular bail.”
“We will collect all the documents related to Kolpe’s real date of birth and what the boy has submitted for the tournament he played in Baramati earlier this year. We will also explore the role of other persons in the case,” he added.
Approached the police because of incompetent handling by concerned authorities: Complainant
The complainant, Nana Satav, expressed that the case was not handled well by the concerned authorities. He then approached the police to look into the issue. The complainant added that not addressing the age-fudging issue is unfair to the other cricketers.
“I approached the police because of the incompetent handling of the case by the (tournament) authorities concerned. Not addressing the overage issue properly is nothing but playing with the careers of those young players who follow the regulations,” Nana Satav said to the TOI.
