“Mahi Bhai’s Role Was Crucial” – Shivam Dube Credits MS Dhoni For His Comeback

Shivam Dube attributes his recent success in cricket, especially his comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL), to the support and guidance of MS Dhoni. Dube’s performance was lacklustre during his time with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and he struggled to make a mark. His poor showing in RCB led to him being released from the team.

In a surprising turn of events, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) picked him up after his release. Under the mentorship of CSK’s former captain, MS Dhoni, Dube’s game significantly improved. Cricket experts started noticing his growth and improvement as a player during his time with CSK. Dube’s impressive performance with CSK not only revived his IPL career but also paved the way for his return to the national team.

His form earned him a spot in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Dube credits Dhoni for his resurgence, highlighting the legendary cricketer’s role in his development. He mentioned that Dhoni consistently supported him and offered invaluable advice during his tenure with CSK, which played a crucial role in his career turnaround.

“Mahi Bhai’s role was crucial (in my comeback) because if a legendary player like him judges you and gives you advice then it means a lot to any player. When he tells you something positive, your confidence skyrockets instantly. His small pieces of advice has improved my cricket largely,” said Dube while speaking to Star Sports.

Shivam Dube Prepares to Bowl More Overs Ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Shivam Dube mentioned that he might be required to bowl 2-3 overs in upcoming matches. Despite being an all-rounder, Dube was rarely used as a bowler by Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024, where he bowled just one over.

In a previous T20I series against Australia, he bowled in only one match but managed to take three wickets. With the T20 World Cup 2024 approaching, Dube has been informed in advance to prepare for bowling a few overs.

“I bowled just one over in the IPL, but I got a wicket in that so that’s a big positive and it was important (for confidence). Nevertheless, I had been working in the nets because I knew I had to polish my skills to be there when the situation arose. Rohit bhai and Rahul bhai had told be to express myself as an all-rounder and I have been told that I could be needed to bowl 2-3 overs at any point in time,” he added.
