The Australian sensation drew attention to himself during the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024. When the Dambulla Sixers faced the Colombo Strikers on Thursday (16th July), he made an outstanding performance on the pitch. Muhammad Waseem of Colombo has played very attacking cricket against Dambulla Sixers’ Nuwan Pradeep in Dambulla Sixers vs Colombo Strikers match.
In the second over of the innings, Nuwan Pradeep received hard hits from Muhammad Waseem that consisted of two fours and a six off the first four deliveries. It looked like the batsman would be all over his bowler in the next balls but the fast bowler stormed back and eventually got him. However, we should thank Mark Chapman for this interception effort.
In the over’s fifth ball, Nuwan Pradeep delivered one pitching toward off-stump. However, when he attempted to hit over mid-on, Muhammad Waseem didn’t get the intended connection. However, it was Mark Chapman at mid-on who made a Superman effort.
In chasing, Colombo Strikers lost their second wicket quickly as Mark Chapman dashed to his right and took a dive making the matchless catch off the bat of the batter. As a result of him sending the batter back to the dugout, the score became 16/2 with his side being the one who could not stop losing wickets.

Nuwan Pradeep didn’t look back as he went on to pick wickets at regular intervals putting pressure on the opposition thereafter. Following Waseem’s fall(15), the Colombo Strikers lost quick successions of wickets leaving them tumbling at 88/9.
Skipper Thisara Perera played an innings of 30 runs to keep his team in the game, but he couldn’t see it through as Colombo Strikers were bundled out for 95 and they lost by 28 runs.
We did everything possible to set a huge total: Mohammad Nabi
In an interview following the match, the skipper of Dambulla Sixers, Mohammad Nabi, said the wicket was a bit tricky to bat and they tried to make a mammoth total. He also shared his thoughts about how he wanted to handle his game. He said:
“It’s a tough game and also a tricky pitch. We tried our best to put up a big score but early wickets damaged us. Had I played the last four overs, would have been a different situation. Was waiting for the bad ball today. Just play simple cricket, watch the ball and when the legspinner is bowling watch the googly and flipper.”
“Only Googly and Flipper are tough to play on this pitch. In the huddle, we spoke about defending 47 and tried to bowl stump to stump. A lovely tournament, I enjoyed it as a captain, unfortunately we couldn’t qualify. Great tournament and I really enjoyed it.”
