Entering the auction hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a hefty purse of ₹45 crore, Mumbai Indians made significant moves. Their biggest acquisition on Day 1 was New Zealand pacer Trent Boult, who returned to the blue for ₹12.5 crore. Talented uncapped Indian batter Naman Dhir was also brought back by MI using the Right to Match (RTM) card.
Over two days of intense bidding, Mumbai Indians secured 18 players, with Kiwi pacer Trent Boult headlining their auction list. Other notable signings included Deepak Chahar, Will Jacks, and Mitchell Santner.
On Day 2, MI kicked off by signing flamboyant South African wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton for his base price of ₹1 crore. They also acquired experienced pacer Deepak Chahar for ₹9.25 crore and mystery spinner Allah Ghazanfar for ₹4.80 crore. Additionally, the destructive England batter Will Jacks was signed for ₹5.25 crore.
Earlier, MI announced former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene as their new head coach for IPL 2025, replacing Mark Boucher, who led the team for the past two seasons.
