Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey has finally departed for Australia via Doha on Sunday. A CSK official confirmed the news. Meanwhile, Australia had imposed a ban on flights from India till May 15. With Hussey testing COVID positive he was asked to quarantine in India. As a result, he could not join his countrymen who were off to the Maldives before their journey back to Australia.
Following an RT-PCR test, the former Australia batsman had returned negative for COVID-19 on Friday, paving the way for his departure in the early hours of Sunday. He is expected to reach home on Monday.
Michael Hussey Retuns To Australia
“Yes, Hussey has left for Australia via Doha by a commercial flight. He left in the early hours of Sunday,” CSK CEO K S Viswanathan told PTI.
The IPL 2021 was suspended on May 4 after players from various IPL franchises tested COVID positive. CSK had the likes of Michael Hussey, bowling coach L Balaji detected with COVID-19, were brought to Chennai from Delhi in an air ambulance.
Michael Hussey tested COVID positive twice before testing negative for the third time which then made way for his return back to Australia. The southpaw is understood to have sat next to a bus assistant. He became the first overseas member in the IPL to be infected with the coronavirus. He also couldn’t join the rest of the Australians, who went to the Maldives.
Meanwhile BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has already said that the remainder of the IPL 2021 cannot be hosted in India and that there are not in any hurry to play out the remaining season. The BCCI also said that they are looking at a possible window in September to end the season.
Meanwhile, Team India will be playing the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton following which they have a five-match Test series against England.
