Bangladesh’s recent clean sweep of Pakistan in a two-Test series marked a significant milestone in their cricketing history. The first Test, which ended in a 10-wicket victory for Bangladesh, was particularly memorable as it marked their maiden Test win over Pakistan. The repeat performance in the second Test solidified this achievement, showcasing Bangladesh’s growing prowess in the international arena.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz emerged as the star of the series, claiming 10 wickets in total. His exceptional performance earned him the prestigious Player of the Series award. In his post-match interview, Miraz expressed his delight at this achievement, especially considering the challenges of batting at number eight. He also acknowledged the difficulties of bowling on the pitch but expressed his satisfaction with his five-wicket haul.

Mehidy in post-match said: “I’m really happy. This is the first time I won the Man of the Series award overseas. So I’m really happy. (Batting at number 8) It’s a tough job. And batting at number 8, so it will be very tough, but I’m just trying to start rotating and support the batsman. Like, um, I got a partnership with Mushi and Litton.”

“I really enjoy myself batting with them. (Five-wicket haul) Definitely. Uh, I’m really happy because, you know, you’re here; it’s been difficult to bowl on this pitch. Uh, I got five wickets, so it’s a good moment for me and hopeful. In Sha Allah next. I’ll try to do better. (Missing out the World Cup squad) Yeah, I didn’t play the World Cup at that time. I go back home, and I also have five months in our hands.”

Miraz’s commitment to social causes was evident in his decision to dedicate his Player of the Series award to the family of a rickshaw puller who had tragically lost his life during a recent anti-discrimination protest in Bangladesh. This gesture highlighted his empathy and his desire to use his platform to raise awareness about important social issues.

In keeping with his promise, Miraz subsequently donated the prize money from the Pakistan series to the family of the deceased rickshaw puller. This act of generosity and compassion further solidified his reputation as a role model and a humanitarian.

Bangladesh’s series win over Pakistan not only represents a significant achievement for the team but also serves as a testament to the progress they have made in recent years. The victory has undoubtedly boosted their confidence and will inspire future generations of cricketers in the country.
