Australia won the match against West Indies yesterday by 15 runs. Despite a top-order collapse the partnership between Coulter-Nile and Steve Smith helped to post a fighting total in the board.
Australian bowlers led by Mitchell Starc made sure to create a late impact on the dangerous batting line – up of the opposition and added another two points to their account.
What deserves attention here is the fiery spells from Mitchell Starc. After a series of injuries, he almost remained far from the side during a few of the most important encounters. Josh Hazelwood, Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson, Jason Beherendoff and many other bowlers were taking care of the bowling attack in his absence.
But, a proper recovery ensured his presence in the World Cup and he is certainly making it count. The fiery left-arm pacer with his five-wicket haul yesterday became the fastest player to pick 150+ wickets in the ODI format of the game.
He now surpassed Saqlain Mushtaq (78) matches and became the tenth Australian to pick up 150 wickets in this format of the game next to Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Johnson and few others in the list.
The 29-year old Mitchell Starc just required 77 games to reach these figures and his side will be certainly proud of this achievement. It is to be noted that his spells created a difference in their 2015 World Cup campaign where they emerged victoriously. Starc was adjudged the Man of the Tournament award for his tally of 22 wickets with a very frugal economy rate too.
Mitchell Starc now became the first bowler to pick the five-wicket haul in this edition of the world cup and it will be interesting if there will be many more to come.
Australia will face India on Sunday in London. An intense thriller is expected on the cards as both the sides won the respective away ODI series a few months ago.
