Mohammad Amir Unlikely to Participate in the T20I Series Against Ireland Due to Visa Issues: Reports
Mohammad Amir

The involvement of Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland is uncertain, as he has reportedly faced challenges in obtaining his visa in time to travel with the team. Given the brevity of the series, doubts have arisen regarding the left-arm seamer’s ability to participate.

As per ESPNcricinfo, a PCB official opines that it was the host’s duty to ensure timely visa issuance for all visiting players. Mohammad Yousaf, a member of the PCB management, also faced a visa approval delay but managed to obtain it in time to accompany the squad.

There is currently no specified timeframe for Mohammad Amir’s visa arrival. Pakistan is scheduled to head to England for four T20Is following the three-match series against Ireland as part of their preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.

Mohammad Amir has made a comeback to international cricket following a four-year absence

Mohammad Amir made his return to international cricket after 18 years when Pakistan encountered New Zealand in a five-match T20I series on home turf last month.

However, despite the occasion, the 32-year-old could only secure three wickets in four matches as the hosts struggled to a draw against a weakened New Zealand side.

Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside co-hosts USA, India, Ireland, and Canada. Additionally, there has been a shift in the coaching staff, with Gary Kirsten slated to commence his tenure during the T20I series against England.

In the 2022 T20 World Cup held in Australia, Pakistan made it to the final but suffered a defeat to eventual champions England by five wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Babar Azam and his team are among the three teams to have reached the knockout stage in the last two T20 World Cups. Consequently, they are eager to clinch the title this time around.
