Indian pacer Mohammed Shami recently fired back at Sanjay Manjrekar over comments regarding his potential price drop in the IPL 2025 mega auction. During a Star Sports segment, Manjrekar speculated that Shami’s history of injuries might deter franchises from making hefty bids.

He remarked, “Teams will be interested, but Shami’s injury record raises concerns about a potential mid-season breakdown, which could restrict options for a franchise.”

This might lead to a significant dip in his auction price.” Reacting to this, Shami posted on Instagram, “Baba ki jay hoooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam aayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile (Hail Baba. Save some wisdom for your own future, Sanjay ji. If anyone needs predictions, they should consult sir).”

Shami’s Recent Comeback from Injury

After being sidelined following the 2023 ODI World Cup due to injury, Shami has made strides towards a comeback. He recently returned to competitive cricket with a solid Ranji Trophy performance and is set to represent Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Additionally, he aims to secure a Test comeback during the second half of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Despite his challenges, Shami’s IPL track record remains impressive.

The Gujarat Titans, who signed him for ₹6.25 crore in 2022, released him ahead of the 2025 auction. During his tenure, Shami claimed 48 wickets in 33 matches, including a stellar performance in the 2023 season where he won the Purple Cap by picking up 28 wickets in 17 games at an average of 18.64 and an economy of 8.03.

A Bidding War in IPL 2025?

Shami’s release from Gujarat Titans has sparked speculation about his next IPL destination. At 34, the veteran pacer still holds significant value if he remains fit and continues to deliver strong performances. Teams will undoubtedly be interested in his services, especially given his proven ability to lead the bowling attack and his stellar 2023 season.

However, concerns about his fitness could influence bidding strategies. With the IPL 2025 auction scheduled for November 24-25, Shami’s future in the league will soon unfold, potentially drawing a competitive bidding war among franchises.
