Mongolia Sets Unwanted T20I Record With Five Ducks, All Out For 10

In a stunning display of dominance, Singapore bowled Mongolia out for just 10 runs during the T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A match held in Bangi on Thursday. This dismal total tied the record for the lowest score in men’s T20I history, equaling the Isle of Man’s infamous collapse against Spain in 2023. Singapore capitalized on this historic low to cruise to a nine-wicket victory, with a staggering 115 balls to spare.

Despite a slight hiccup in the first ball of their chase, where they lost a wicket, Singapore needed only five deliveries to surpass Mongolia’s meagre total of 11. This comfortable win marked Singapore’s second triumph in the competition, further solidifying their strong position, while Mongolia, after four matches, remained without a win and languished at the bottom of the table.

The match’s standout performer was Singapore’s 17-year-old leg-spinner, Harsha Bharadwaj. With a sensational bowling display, Bharadwaj claimed six wickets for just three runs in his four-over spell. His performance ranked as the second-best bowling figure ever recorded in men’s T20I history.

Bharadwaj’s impact was immediate, removing two Mongolian batsmen in the first over, and by the time the powerplay concluded, he had taken five of Mongolia’s six wickets. Mongolia’s innings were riddled with poor performances, as five players were dismissed for ducks. Remarkably, Mongolia has now recorded three of the four lowest scores in men’s T20I cricket, all occurring in 2024.

Mongolia’s innings lasted for 10 overs, during which they played out three maidens. Their longest partnerships, for the fourth and last wickets, each survived only 11 balls. During Singapore’s brief chase, Raoul Sharma hit a six on his first ball, followed by William Simpson striking the winning boundary off the penultimate ball of the first over.

The brief score summary reflects Mongolia’s struggles: Mongolia 10 all out in 10 overs (Gandemberel Ganbold 2, Zoljavkhlan Shurentsetseg 2*; Harsha Bharadwaj 6-3, Akshay Puri 2-4). Singapore replied with 13 for 1 in just 0.5 overs (Raoul Sharma 7*, William Simpson 6*), sealing a nine-wicket win.
