Keeping his promise, Team India World Cup-winning skipper MS Dhoni has begun his two-month training with the Indian Army’s Parachute Regiment.

As per reports in India Today, it is learnt that Dhoni has joined a battalion. The headquarters are located in Bengaluru. As per words from a source, while speaking to IANS, the plan was slated to come into action for a while.

“Just like Dhoni has been one of the greatest servants of Indian cricket, his love for the armed forces is also well-known. This idea that he would go and spend time with his regiment was in the pipeline for a while but it took a backseat due to his cricketing commitments.

“This will also help increase awareness among the youth about the armed forces and that is what Dhoni wants,” the source said. The former Indian skipper holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion).

Dhoni was bestowed with the honour by the Indian Army way back in 2011. Along with Dhoni two other sportsperson, Abhinav Bindra and Deepak Rao also achieved the recognition.

It was in 2015 when MS Dhoni became a qualified paratrooper after completing as many as 5  years in parachute training from the India Army Aircraft in the training camp in Agra. Following India’s surprising exit from the recently concluded World Cup, there were speculations surrounding Dhoni’s retirement.

BCCI has requested Dhoni to be around for a few more months

However, it is learnt that the board has requested him to be around the scheme of things and groom Pant as there is an impending T20 World Cup slated to be played next year.

He won’t be part of the Indian squad touring Windies as he had made himself unavailable for 2 months owing to his army commitments. There is certainly no doubt about the fact that MS Dhoni still remains one of the greatest ever players produced by India.
