Reports suggest that MS Dhoni has not yet confirmed his participation in IPL 2025. According to Sports Tak, Dhoni is expected to meet Chennai Super Kings (CSK) officials at the end of October to discuss his availability. Although CSK approached him for talks earlier, Dhoni postponed the discussion until after October 28.
The meeting between Dhoni and CSK officials is likely to take place on either October 29 or 30, after which the team will finalize their retention list for IPL 2025, as all franchises must submit their retained players by October 31.
MS Dhoni’s Potential Role in IPL 2025
If Dhoni decides to participate in IPL 2025, it is expected that he will be retained as an uncapped player for INR 4 crore, following the rule that players retired from international cricket for five years can be categorized as uncapped. Dhoni has been actively training at the JSCA center in Ranchi and remains fit after undergoing knee surgery.
While he may not serve as a wicketkeeper due to age and past injuries, Dhoni could play as a batter or even as an Impact Player in the upcoming season, depending on his final decision. This situation might prompt CSK to search for a new wicketkeeper during the auction.
Transition in CSK Leadership and Dhoni’s Contributions
MS Dhoni, widely regarded as one of the most successful captains in IPL history, stepped down from CSK’s captaincy before IPL 2024, handing the role to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK secured five IPL titles. Despite his injury concerns, Dhoni played 14 matches in IPL 2024, scoring 161 runs and making notable contributions as a lower-order batter.
His powerful cameos, which included 13 sixes and 14 fours, added to his legacy, and fans are eagerly waiting for a final decision on his participation in IPL 2025. The auction for the next IPL season is expected to take place in Riyadh in late November.
