Former New Zealand cricketer Ian Smith has heaped praise on former India skipper MS Dhoni saying that his presence is always missed on the cricket field. Notably, Dhoni has been out of action since India's ICC World Cup 2019 ouster losing to New Zealand in the semifinals.
The cricketer from Ranchi had poor returns in the premier tournament in England and decided to take a sabbatical. During this period, the veteran cricketer worked with the Army in August. He also played an amateur golf tournament in the USA and took part in a charity football match. A lot has been spoken over MS Dhoni retirement but the cricketer is yet to speak a word.

But the national selectors have recently said that they have come ahead of Dhoni and the fans are unlikely to the former India skipper in India jersey once again. However, the legendary cricketer is gearing up for his return in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his franchise Chennai Super Kings. Ahead of his return, Ian Smith admitted that his presence is always missed on the cricket field.
"How can you not miss MS Dhoni on a cricket field? He has been a great leader and a great finisher. He almost won you the World Cup [2019] semi-final. I admire him and love talking about him, but time moves on and at some stage, you have to accept that new generation will get a chance," Smith said on the eve of the second Test.
