Prithvi Shaw is currently serving a ban till November 15 on accounts of consuming a chemical banned by the BCCI Anti-doping Committee. Reports even surfaced that the 20-year old is depressed and currently in England to divert his mind. For the first time, Mumbai coach Vinayak Samant responded on these series of events.
He said that Prithvi needs to be really focussed and behave appropriately once he returns. Samant said, “It is very disappointing. He is shattered and it’s a tough time for him. But he’s such a character that he can put these things aside and bounce back.“
Prithvi had a wonderful 2018 as he led the Under-19 side to win the World tournament. He even bagged the player of the series award on his maiden international outing. However, 2019 is troubling him with injuries and controversies.
Prithvi needs to concentrate on his fitness
Furthermore, Samant added that Prithvi should spend some time on his fitness. “He has to work hard on his fitness and discipline. Until you fall in a ditch, your eyes don’t open. So, now, he has to behave properly after this incident “, said Samant.
Terming him as one of the most “fearless” cricketers, Smanat admitted that Shaw”s absence will hurt the Mumbai side at the top.
It is to be noted that Samant was the coach during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Shaw”s side.
On account of his suspension, Prithvi will not be under selectors” radar for the next two home test series against the Proteas and Bangladesh. He cannot even participate in any domestic tournaments in this period.
