Team India management will have to make tough choices regarding the selection of spinner for the T20 World Cup. Notably, India has several good spinners in the team which makes the job even tougher for the selection committee. Meanwhile legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has picked a spinner between Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.
Notably in the recent India tour of Sri Lanka, there were 4 spinners from the Indian team who performed well. Namely Varun Chakravarthy, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Rahul Chahar. Also, all the spinners will be fighting for the spot in the T20 World Cup 2021.

In the last two T20I games Rahul Chahar performed brilliantly for the team. The Mumbai Indians spinner grabbed the opportunity with both hands delivered a good performance whenever he got the chance. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy were amazing too. Meanwhile, Muralitharan picked Kuldeep Yadav over Varun for his wickets taking ability and he stated:
“For India, I will wait and see this IPL and how it goes in the UAE and see the performances and who’s in form. My pick will be Kuldeep Yadav because he has proven himself as a wicket-taking bowler. Unfortunately, the IPL team is not picking him for the side,”
He (Varun Chakravarthy) is not mesmerizing the batsmen, but he’s decent: Muttiah Muralitharan
The former Sri Lankan spinner Muralitharan suggested that India should go in World Cup with the bowlers who are good form in IPL. Also, he said that Varun Chakravarthy’s mystery spin can come in very handy for India in the upcoming World Cup. While comparing Varun with Star spinners like Ajantha Mendis and Sunil Narine, Muralitharan asserted:
‘Varun Chakravarthy is a very good bowler, a very good option for India and also for the IPL team. I still think he is not like Ajantha Mendis or Sunil Narine’s level when they came into the team, and they mesmerized the batsmen. He is not mesmerizing the batsmen, but he’s decent enough and he is giving a good performance,”
Varun Chakravarthy got the opportunity to represent India in all three T20I games. Notably, he didn’t perform exceptionally but performed well enough to be in the race for T20 World Cup. In the Sri Lanka T20I series, he got 1 wicket each in the first two games however he went wicketless in the last match.
