“My Son Helped Me Up When I Fainted” – Vinod Kambli Opens Up About Rehab And Personal Struggles

Vinod Kambli‘s struggles have sparked widespread discussion among fans and the cricket community. The former Team India batsman has now spoken about the challenges he faced due to a urinary infection.

The 52-year-old revealed that his wife Andrea and children, Jesus Christiano and Johanna, were his main sources of support during his health crisis. Kambli also shared a touching moment when his son helped him up after he collapsed.

During an interview with Vickey Lalwani on the latter’s YouTube channel (via Times of India), Kambli opened up about his health condition. He stated:

“I am better now. My wife takes care of me a lot. She took me to three different hospitals and told me, ‘You have to get fit.’ My son picked me up when I collapsed, and my daughter and wife stood by me throughout. The doctor told me to get admitted.”

Kambli mentioned that he was ready to undergo rehabilitation for his recovery, and added:

“I’m ready to go to rehab. I want to go there because I don’t fear anything. My family is with me.”

It’s important to note that Vinod Kambli’s friend, Marcus Couto, disclosed that the former cricketer had attended rehab 14 times. In an interview with the Times of India, Couto mentioned that Kambli had refrained from alcohol for a year.

“Sachin Did Everything For Me” – Vinod Kambli on the Gesture of His Childhood Friend

In 2009, Vinod Kambli had voiced his disappointment over not receiving support from his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar during his difficult times. However, he later clarified that his remarks were made out of frustration.

Kambli revealed that Tendulkar had actually been a great help, even covering the costs of his surgeries in 2013. Kambli shared this in the interview mentioned earlier:

“At that time, it came to my mind that Sachin didn’t help. I was extremely frustrated. But Sachin did everything for me, including paying for my two surgeries in 2013. We spoke, and childhood friendship came forward.”

Vinod Kambli, once seen as a great talent, didn’t have a perfect career. He made a strong start on the big stage but was unable to reach his full potential.

Kambli still holds the record as the fastest Team India batter to score 1,000 runs in Test cricket, achieving the milestone in just 14 innings. Over 17 Tests, he accumulated 1,084 runs at an average of 54.20. In ODIs, he scored 2,477 runs from 94 innings, averaging 32.59.
