Namibia stunned Oman in Super Over of match 3 of ICC T20 World Cup 2024 played at Kennington Oval, Barbados on 3rd June 2024. Namibia looked in cruise control with 18 runs required off 18 balls. Mehran Khan bowled a stunning over-bowling wicket maiden, including 4 extra runs. The experienced David Wiese showed his class with a well-needed six to leave Namibia just 5 runs off the last over.

Mehran Khan dismissed Frylinck and Zane Green off successive deliveries to make the equation tough for Namibia. The match went to the last ball with 2 runs required, Wiese took a bye that resulted in the Super Over.

It was an amazing bowling effort by Oman bowlers keeping disciplined lines and lengths not allowing Namibia batters to score runs easily. Jan Frylinck was the top scorer for Namibia with 45 while Mehran Khan took 3 for 7 in 3 overs for Oman.

David Wiese and captain Gerald Erasmus came to the batting crease in the Super Over. Wiese and Erasmus smashed Bilal Khan for 21 runs. Wiese hit a boundary and six off the first two deliveries while Erasmus hit 2 boundaries off the final two deliveries to help Namibia post a huge total on the board.

David Wiese bowled a superb over giving away just 10 runs and picking the wicket of Naseem Khushi. Maqsood hit six off final delivery as it was enough as Namibia won the match comfortably to start the tournament on a winning note.

For his 3 for 28 in 4 overs, David Wiese was named the player of the match award. It was a superb bowling effort by Oman bowlers after skittled out for just 109.

First Super Over In T20 World Cups Since 2012

Namibia captain Gerald Erasmus won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start as Truumplemann got wickets of Prajapati and Aqib Ilyas off the first two deliveries. Truumplemann struck again to dismiss Naseem Khushi to leave Oman in trouble at 10 for 3. Ayaan Khan and Khalid Kali steadied the ship for Oman putting on 31 runs for the 5th wicket.

It was a disciplined bowling effort by the Namibia bowlers as they bowled out Oman for 109 in 19.4 overs. Roben Truumplemann took 4 for 21, Wiese 3 for 28, Erasmus 2 while Scholtz took 1 wicket.

In reply, Namibia got off to a worst possible start losing the wicket of Van Lingen bowled by Bilal Khan. Nikolass Davin and Frylinck struggled against disciplined Oman bowling.

Erasmus and Frylinck steadied the ship putting on 31 runs for the 3rd wicket. Mehran Khan bowled with great control keeping wickets at regular intervals.
