Nepal Skipper Paras Khadka Announces Retirement From International Cricket

Nepal skipper Paras Khadka announced his international retirement on Tuesday via a Twitter post. He played 10 ODIs and 33 T20Is since making his international debut way back in 2014. He made his T20I debut in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.  Khadka made his ODI debut against the Netherlands in 2018.

Though he made his international debut late, Paras made his first-class debut way back in 2004. He represented Nepal in three U-19 World Cups in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Internationally, he ended with 315 ODI and 620 ODI runs. He also picked up 14 international wickets.

“Playing for Nepal has been my biggest achievement and for that I will always be indebted towards my coaches, players, fans, stakeholders, friends and family for their continuous support over the last 18 years since I started as a young 15 year old back in 2002,” he said in his statement.

He also took to Twitter to make an official announcement on his retirement.

“With utmost clarity, respect and gratitude, I have now decided to retire myself from playing international cricket.“This amazing journey on a cricket field as an international cricketer ends here but the cricket dreams for my country have just started” the 34-year-old cricketer wrote on Twitter.

Paras Khadka Retires From International Cricket

Khadka had a few records to his name international cricket. He became the first Nepali cricketer to hit an ODI ton (115 vs UAE) and a T20I ton (106* vs Singapore) in the same year. He hit the T20I ton in a chase which is a world record in itself. Paras Khadka’s last competitive game was a T20I against Thailand in Bangkok in March last year before the pandemic struck.

“My ultimate dream is to see Nepal have a better cricketing system for which I have spent all my energy in the last two decades and to improve it will require equal support from everyone in the cricketing community and beyond. I believe with everyone’s honest effort and intentions, we will be able to do so,” said Khadka.
