Yet another IPL season for Sanju Samson and comparisons with MS Dhoni have yet again started doing the rounds in the media. Samson was appointed as the skipper of Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2021 edition. Previous skipper Steve Smith was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2021 player auction. Meanwhile, Samson opened up looking ahead of a new season.

Sanju Samson will lead Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 IPL season as the franchise parted ways with last edition skipper Steve Smith ahead of the auction.

“I don’t think anyone can be like MS Dhoni. I would like to be myself. Sanju Samson will be good enough,” the Rajasthan Royals website quoted Samson as saying.

Though the Royals finished last in the points table in 2020, they were only two points behind the third and fourth-ranked team in the points table. This just shows how close the league stage was in the previous IPL edition.

Samson thanked fans for supporting the Royals during the topsy turvy ride and promised to bring smiles back on their faces in this year’s IPL.

Sanju Samson Thanks Fans For Support

“I would like to thank each and every fan out there for supporting our team and being with us no matter what. I’ll make sure that we play some good cricket for you guys and bring a smile on your faces. Thanks a lot, guys,” said Samson.

Rajasthan Royals went all out behind Chris Morris and roped him in for 16.25 crores. They also attained the services of Mustafizur Rahman and Shivam Due for the upcoming season. Along with Samson, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler form the batting core of the group. Meanwhile, the franchise will be missing the services of Jofra Archer who will miss the initial games after undergoing an elbow surgery.

They will kick off their IPL 2021 campaign against Punjab Kings in Mumbai on April 12. With none of the teams playing at their own home venues, all the teams will play across six venues throughout the season. Royals will play five games in Mumbai, four games in Delhi, three in Kolkata and two in Banglore.
