Rajasthan Royals Explain Why He Broke The Bank For Chris Morris

The all-rounder from South Africa Chris Morris broke all the banks in the IPL 2021 auction when he bagged a ₹16.25 crores deal in the IPL 2021 auction. After an intense bidding war, Rajasthan Royals took home the former Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder.

Incidentally, Bangalore had released the all-rounder, who struggled with injuries before the auction. However, much to the surprise of many, Chris Morris grabbed interest from a couple of franchisees including his former employer. But Rajasthan Royals had the last laugh snapping the tall and lanky all-rounder at a recording-breaking price making him the most expensive player ever at the IPL auction.

Chris Morris was always on our radar – Rajasthan Royals COO

Revealing the reason why Rajasthan Royals bought Chris Morris, COO Jake Lush McCrum stated that the all-rounder was always on their radar. He also added that Morris had extraordinary numbers in the death overs and his ability to play long handles in the lower-order made him an obvious choice.

Chris Morris is someone we have always had on our radar and we knew there would be heavy competition from the other teams for him. Thankfully Punjab Kings stopped bidding when they did, otherwise we would have lost him,” McCrum said.

“He is extremely experienced and will add to our bowling depth, especially at the death alongside the likes of Jofra Archer and Kartik Tyagi. Morris does indeed add greater potency to our death bowling which was a weakness last year. He had some fantastic numbers at the death in the last IPL and has bags of IPL experience, something that will be great for us as a squad. Down the order with the bat, he can win you matches too, with his powerful hitting,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have named Sanju Samson as their new skipper after releasing Steve Smith from the squad. Lush McCrum said that he has some natural leadership qualities which will suit the Royals way more likely. He also told that the Rajasthan team would be built around him due to his excellent prowess.

“For all of us, it was a unanimous decision on Sanju. He has the natural leadership qualities required, understands the Royals way, and is someone we want to build our team around,” he added.
