Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir heaped praise on former skipper MS Dhoni following India’s loss against England in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup on Thursday, November 10 at the Adelaide Oval. Gambhir expressed that no captain will ever be able to break MS Dhoni’s record of winning three ICC trophies.

Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, India won three ICC titles from 2007 to 2013. India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, and then the fifty-over World Cup in 2011. They also clinched the 2013 Champions Trophy by defeating England in the finals. Apart from the wicket-keeper batter, only Kapil Dev has won an ICC trophy as the Indian skipper.

Hailing MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports,

“Someone will come and probably score more double 100s than Rohit Sharma and more 100s than Virat Kohli, but I don’t think any Indian captain would be able to achieve three ICC trophies.”

We couldn’t turn up today: Gautam Gambhir on India’s loss against England

Former cricket Gautam Gambhir expressed that the Indian team couldn’t turn up against England in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup. He added that in knockout matches, it is important to handle the pressure. Gambhir opined that India looked nervous, but credit should also be given to England openers, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales. He said,

“We were not up to the mark with the ball, we couldn’t turn up today. It’s all about handling the pressure in knockout games. All these guys have played enough to understand that. These guys have played under pressure in IPL games, it’s all about keeping calm. We were nervy to start with, but you got to give credit to their openers, they played really well.”

Team India lost the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup against England by 10 wickets. Batting first, they put on 168 runs on the board, on the back of Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli’s fifties. However, they couldn’t; stand against the onslaught by the England openers, who chased down the target comfortably in 16 overs. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 80 runs, while Alex Hales won the Player of the Match for his 86 not out knock.
