Mumbai state team’s manager Bhushan Patil assured that there are no worries about Shreyas Iyer‘s fitness. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain is expected to join his team’s pre-IPL 2024 camp in two days.
Despite scoring 95 runs in the third innings of the Ranji Trophy final, Shreyas did not participate in the field activities during the last two days of the match.
Certain reports indicated that Iyer’s recurring back injury, which had sidelined him from previous Ranji matches, had worsened, potentially causing him to miss the initial matches of IPL 2024.
“There is no cause for concern; he is fine and will be going to Kolkata for the pre-IPL camp in two days,” Mumbai team manager Bhushan Patil said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
However, as per the Cricbuzz report, Shreyas underwent scans, but the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) found the results inconclusive. The state body is now awaiting communication from the National Cricket Association (NCA).
The NCA has also faced criticism in this situation. Despite reports of Shreyas experiencing back issues during the India-England Test series, leading to his exclusion after the second Test, NCA experts cleared him of any injury.
This sparked controversies and speculation about his dedication to Indian cricket, ultimately resulting in his removal from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s central contract
The BCCI may contemplate reinstating Shreyas Iyer’s contract
The report also mentioned that the BCCI might reconsider their decision to exclude him from the central contract list.
However, officials are neither confirming nor denying this speculation, and it would require significant transparency from the board. Currently, as a Ranji Trophy winner, he is expected to start the IPL season with KKR.
With just a week left, the Indian Premier League starts soon. KKR will play Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, where their mentor Gautam Gambhir recently arrived amidst fan excitement.
