Mohammed Shami of Team India is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The experienced fast bowler has been sidelined since the 2023 World Cup last November.

Due to Achilles tendon surgery performed earlier this year, Shami was unable to participate in both the 2024 version of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and later T20 World Cup. In the final phase of his recovery process, Shami has been intensively training with great effort to return to action soon.

Shami posted a video on Instagram on August 18th, Sunday, revealing to fans part of his daily workout routine. The professional sportsman could be seen straining himself at the gym while under observation by physiotherapist Nitin Patel.

He captioned the post by:

“If you’re brave enough to fail and try again, nothing is beyond your reach.”

In the year 2023, Mohammed Shami made the news for his superb performance in the one-day international World Cup. The bowler managed to take 24 wickets within just seven matches and became the top wicket-taker of this competition. He performed excellently during the critical semifinal match that pitted India against New Zealand and earned an impressive seven-wicket haul in that elimination round.

“We need him in Australia” – Jay Shah is confident that Mohammed Shami will be fit for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy

In the recent times, Jay Shah, BCCI secretary has confirmed that Mohammed Shami is likely to make it to the Indian cricket team for this year’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. In response to a question by the Times of India about the physical condition of Mohammed Shami as well as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav, Shah replied:

“Your question about Shami is right, but I cannot give you any answer on Mayank Yadav as there is no guarantee whether he will be in the team or no. But he is potentially a good fast bowler, and we are looking after him. He is currently in the NCA. Shami will be there because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia.”

Beginning on September 19, Team India is going to face their opponents Bangladesh in a series of two test matches to be played at home. Whether or not Shami can recover completely before the match is still a question mark.
