The International Cricket Council announced the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 schedule, which will take place later this year in India. The tournament begins on Thursday, October 5 with England taking on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The venue will also host the most anticipated clash between Team India and Pakistan.
The arch-rivals will play against each other on Sunday, October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. This will be India’s third clash in the tournament, after playing England and Afghanistan. This will be their eighth face-off in the ICC ODI World Cup, having played against each other in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015 and 2019. Only the 2007 World Cup, did not witness an India-Pakistan game since 1992.

Pakistan Cricket Board to seek government clearance before confirming participation in ICC ODI World Cup
According to a Cricbuzz report, the Pakistan Cricket Board will be seeking clearance from the government to play the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India. They will confirm their participation following the clearance from the government. The response has come after the World Cup schedule was announced on Tuesday, June 27.
“The PCB requires clearance from the Government of Pakistan for any tour to India, including the match venues,” said a spokesman for the Pakistan board in a statement.
“We are in communication with our government to seek guidance, and once we receive a response from them, we will update the Event Authority (ICC). This stance aligns with what we communicated to the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared the draft schedule with us and sought our feedback,” the spokesperson added.
It is understood that Pakistan objected to the India vs Pakistan match being held in Ahmedabad. They expressed their desire to play in Chennai or in Bengaluru. They also wanted to switch their matches against Afghanistan and Australia.
