‘On National duty’: Hardik Pandya Joins Team India In New York For T20 World Cup

Hardik Pandya, India’s all-rounder and vice-captain, has recently been under scrutiny for his personal life. Professionally, Pandya encountered significant challenges, especially during the recent Indian Premier League season. Pandya assumed the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians from Team India skipper Rohit Sharma before the IPL commenced.

However, this move faced backlash from MI fans, resulting in Pandya being booed multiple times during the tournament. Despite his leadership, the five-time champions not only missed out on the playoffs but also finished last in the league stage among the ten participating teams.

Despite the scrutiny and speculation, Pandya shared images from Team India’s initial training session in New York for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He accompanied the photos with a concise three-word declaration: “On national duty.”

This update indicates that Pandya has reunited with his teammates in New York and is geared up for the upcoming mega event, jointly hosted by the USA and the West Indies. The Indian cricket squad has initiated their training sessions in New York for the ICC 2024 T20 World Cup, set to commence on June 2nd.

The 2024 T20 World Cup is scheduled to commence on June 1st

The initial group of Indian cricketers, including captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and head coach Rahul Dravid, arrived in New York a few days ago and have now commenced their practice sessions.

Previously, Jasprit Bumrah posted images on social media depicting the cricketers jogging and training, underscoring the team’s early endeavors to achieve peak fitness. Suryakumar Yadav also shared pictures from their early training sessions.

Prior to the main tournament, the Indian team is scheduled to participate in a warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1st.

India’s sole T20 World Cup triumph occurred in 2007 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, with a victory over Pakistan in the final in Johannesburg, South Africa, during the inaugural edition of the tournament. The current squad is enthusiastic about emulating that achievement and reclaiming the trophy.
