Pakistan Use Unconventional Tactics To Counter England’s Bazball Approach

As the final Test between Pakistan and England kicks off in Rawalpindi on October 24, with the series tied at 1-1, Pakistan is deploying a unique strategy to gain an upper hand. After a thrilling comeback in the second Test on a turning pitch in Multan, Pakistan is now using unconventional methods, including industrial fans and heaters, to recreate similar conditions for the decisive match.

These efforts aim to transform the Rawalpindi pitch into a spinner-friendly surface, as seen in viral images online, with Pakistan banking on the success of spinners like Sajid Khan and Noman Ali to unsettle England’s aggressive batting style.

Pakistan’s Innovative Use of Heaters and Fans on the Pitch

The Pakistan team management has taken extreme measures to prepare the Rawalpindi pitch for the final Test. Viral images on social media show the use of six patio heaters, two industrial fans, and two large windbreaks to dry the pitch and make it conducive to spin.

The strategy mimics their successful approach in Multan, where industrial fans were used to accelerate the pitch’s deterioration. According to reports, three gas-fueled heaters are being placed at each end of the pitch, with a giant fan circulating hot air to expedite the drying process and create more turn.

Turning Track Leads to Success in Second Test

Pakistan’s use of a turning pitch in Multan paid off as spinners Sajid Khan and Noman Ali took all 20 wickets, leading Pakistan to a 152-run victory over England. Captain Shan Masood praised the team effort and credited the decision to create conditions favourable to spin.

Following the second Test, Masood expressed his desire for a similar turning wicket in Rawalpindi for the final game. Despite Rawalpindi not being traditionally known for spin-friendly pitches, Masood remains hopeful that the pitch can be prepared accordingly. The outcome of the third Test will reveal whether Pakistan’s tactics can once again neutralize England’s aggressive style of play.
