Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry: “We Are Considering Every Aspect Of Our World Cup Participation, Including Security”

The participation of Pakistan‘s cricket team in the 2023 ICC World Cup, which will be held in India later that year, is currently being evaluated from all angles, according to a statement from the Pakistani foreign ministry.

The announcement follows reports that Pakistan wants the World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan to be played in different stadiums.

According to the preliminary schedule, they are supposed to play Australia in Bengaluru and Afghanistan in Chennai.

The Asia Cup will take place from August 31 to September 17

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesperson for the Pakistani foreign ministry, was quoted as saying:

“We are monitoring and assessing every aspect of our World Cup participation, including the security situation for Pakistani cricketers. We will provide the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) with our opinions as soon as possible.”

In addition, the statement called India’s policy of not hosting cricket matches in Pakistan “disappointing,” adding that “politics should not be mixed with sports.”

The schedule for the ICC tournament will be held in India in October-November of 2023. This hasn’t been released yet because it’s uncertain where Pakistan’s World Cup matches will be played.

The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was more than ten years ago. Only ICC events and the Asia Cup is run by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). They feature matches between the bitter rivals.

In a significant development, prominent Pakistani leader Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was a member of a delegation of foreign ministers.

He traveled to Goa last month for a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. A senior leader from Pakistan visited India for the first time in nine years at this time.

Prior to the World Cup, an Asia Cup matchup between India and Pakistan is scheduled.

Prior to the World Cup in India in 2023, India and Pakistan will play each other in the Asia Cup. During the competition, the two bitter rivals were put in the same group.

The Asia Cup was supposed to be held in Pakistan this year. There will now be four games in Pakistan and nine in Sri Lanka, with the competition being played in a hybrid format.

After India declined the invitation to play in Pakistan, the arrangement was made.
