The Australian test captain Pat Cummins has been nominated for the ICC Player Of The Month for December for his consistent performances in the two Test matches at home against Pakistan.
Cummins grabbed 2 for 35 in the first innings of the first Test match at Optus Stadium, Perth. He followed with 1 wicket in the 2nd innings which helped Australia to win it by 360 runs. Cummins rose to occasion putting pressure on Pakistan batting grabbing 5 wickets in the first innings of the 2nd test match at Melbourne.
He followed with another 5-wicket haul in the 2nd innings of the 2nd Test that helped Australia to register 79 runs victory and took a 2-0 lead in the series. For his 10-wicket haul, Pat Cummins was named the player of the match award. He showed his class with another set of wickets in the final Test match at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG. For his 19 wickets, Cummins was named the player of the series award.
Here we look at the performances of the other two nominations for the Player of the Month for December:
- Taijul Islam
The left-arm spin bowler Taijul Islam bowled with great control in the first test match against New Zealand at Chattogram. He picked up 4 for 109 runs from his 39 overs in the first innings. His bowling was great during the second innings grabbing 6 for 75 in 31.1 overs that helped Bangladesh register 150 runs victory.
Islam looked impressive in the second test match at Mirpur, Dhaka where the pitch was turning from ball 1. He took 3 for 64 from his 16.1 overs that helped Bangladesh bowl out New Zealand for 180 while took 2 for 58 from his 14 overs but could not help the hosts register victory as Santer and Glenn Phillps added 70 runs for the 7th wicket.
- Glenn Phillips
Glenn Phillps had a great outing in both test matches against Bangladesh. He grabbed 4 for 53 in 16 overs during the first innings of the first Test match and then made 42 in the first innings helping New Zealand take a slender lead.
He proved his worth with match-winning knocks in both innings of the second Test match at Dhaka. With the ball, Phillips grabbed 3 for 31 and helped bowl out Bangladesh for 172. He made a quickfire 87 off 72 deliveries that helped New Zealand take a lead of 7 runs.
Chasing 137 runs in the 2nd innings, New Zealand looked in deep trouble Phillps scored a quickfire unbeaten 40 and added 70 runs for the 7th wicket with Mitchell Santer which helped New Zealand win the match by 4 wickets.
