The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is urging the International Cricket Council (ICC) to finalize the schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will allow for optimal logistical arrangements for the participating teams. This will be the first ICC event hosted by Pakistan in many years, generating significant excitement among fans.
In discussions with ICC representatives, the PCB has stressed the importance of finalizing the schedule promptly to facilitate smooth logistical planning. According to a report from the Tribune, provisional arrangements have already been made based on the proposed schedule, with the board intending to finalize these plans once the official schedule is released. The ICC is anticipated to announce the Champions Trophy schedule by the end of next month.
Additionally, reports suggest that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is likely to meet with newly appointed ICC Chairman and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in October during the Women’s T20 World Cup final to discuss further details.
What’s next for the champion’s trophy?
Under the current proposed schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy, Pakistan is grouped in Group A alongside Bangladesh, New Zealand, and long-standing rivals India. Group B includes England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently awaiting consultations with the Indian government before confirming their participation in the tournament.
Notably, the Indian team has not played in Pakistan since 2008. The tournament is scheduled to commence on February 19 and conclude on March 9, with a reserve day set for March 10 if necessary. Matches will be held at three venues: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
In the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, England’s Test team is preparing to face Pakistan in a three-match series next month. The first two Tests will take place in Multan, while the final match is slated for Rawalpindi. England is set to arrive in Multan on October 2, just five days before the first Test.
The last time England played Test matches in Pakistan was in December 2022, where they achieved a clean sweep of the series, winning 3-0. Currently, Pakistan is recovering from a recent first-ever Test series defeat against Bangladesh, and under the leadership of Shan Masood, the team is eager to make a strong comeback.
