It was an ‘MS Dhoni show’ in the first match of TATA IPL 2022. KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer had elected to bowl first after winning the toss.
CSK kept losing wickets in regular intervals during their innings and at one stage were struggling at 61-5. That is when the veterans MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a brilliant 70-run partnership and helped the team reach a respectable total of 131-5.
MS Dhoni took his time early on his innings, but went berzerk in the death overs. CSK scored 47 runs in the last 3 overs. Dhoni scored 50 unbeaten runs off 38 deliveries. His knock consisted of 7 fours and 1 maximum. This was his first fifty after 2 seasons. His last IPL fifty came in 2019 against RCB (84 not out off 48 balls).
Here is how twitter reacted to MS Dhoni’s Fifty:

Well played by @msdhoni.
He started slowly but used his experience and a combination of composure, aggression and common sense to get @ChennaiIPL to where they are.Their bowlers will have to bowl exceedingly well to defend the total on this pitch. #CSKvKKR pic.twitter.com/BmfKRyDJOd

For KKR, Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowlers as he registered figures of 20/2 in his quota of four overs. Varun Chakaravarthy and Andre Russell each took one wicket.
Meanwhile, two days before the start of the IPL 2022 season, Dhoni made an announcement that broke the hearts of many fans. Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. The franchise, through a media release confirmed the news.
As the captain of CSK, MS Dhoni had a fantastic record. The team won four IPL titles and two Champions League (CLT20) titles under his leadership. The Super Kings have made it to the finals nine times, a record. Except for the 2020 season, they have always qualified to the IPL playoffs.
