On Thursday, Pokhara Avengers celebrated an important accomplishment by winning their first match in the Nepal Premier League. The team played against Janakpur Bolts in a very important match at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, which turned out to be an exciting one.
The Avengers managed to score 156 runs, which was a difficult target for the other team. This score showed that the team was willing to take risks and, at the same time, gave them a good chance to win what was turning out to be a very important match.
The chase of Janakpur Bolts got off to a bad start as they lost their first wickets to the Avengers’ bowling attack. The defending champions found it hard to bounce back from their early losses and could only score 130 runs while losing nine wickets at the end of their twenty overs.
The victory margin was 25 runs, and it was a great victory for the Pokhara Avengers and also a turning point in their campaign. On the other hand, the defeat of Janakpur Bolts is a worrying sign, as it has now become their third consecutive loss.
Pokhara Avengers managed to score 156 runs:
The bowling unit of the Pokhara Avengers completely took apart the innings of the Janakpur Bolts and an extraordinary early collapse caused by the left-arm spinner Bipin Khatri played a major role in it. Khatri got his first victim in the very first over when he bowled Aasif Sheikh without scoring and then dismissed Subash Khakurel for 4 runs. Maaz Sadaqat from Pakistan gave an aggressive start to the Bolts by hitting a six on the very first ball of the match, but the change of momentum was very quick to be in Pokhara’s favor.
Bipin’s spin partner Sumit Verma made it even more difficult for the Batting side in the fourth over when he dismissed both Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton for 2 and Maaz Sadaqat for 20 runs. Even though Sadaqat was the aggressive one, his exit after scoring 14 runs off four and two sixes was a setback for Janakpur. Captain Anil Sah could manage only a single run before Khatri bowled Mayan Yadav for 4, wrapping up a stunning 4-0-15-3 innings.
With 23 runs from 20 balls, Sanjay Krishnamurthi was the middle-order resistance, which was later supported by Wayne Parnell, who scored a losing 50 from 38 deliveries, which included two fours and four sixes before retiring out. Lalit Rajbanshi was not out on 10. For Pokhara, Verma got two wickets, while Bhurtel and Neesham shared one each.
