On Wednesday, R Ashwin responded with wit to a fan’s query about his potential return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Instead of giving a direct answer, Ashwin humorously redirected the question, suggesting the fan should consult CSK’s captain, MS Dhoni, for insights.
This playful interaction unfolded as the 37-year-old Ashwin posted a nostalgic picture from the Madras Cricket Club, a place that marked the onset of his illustrious cricketing career.
R Ashwin posted on Instagram Handle with captions:
“Where I came from”
A user responded: “When do we see you in yellow”
Ashwin replied (as translated from Tamil): “Should ask Annan (elder brother) Dhoni only.”
For those unfamiliar with Ashwin’s cricket journey, he was a pivotal part of the CSK squad from 2008 to 2015. During this tenure, he showcased remarkable skills, securing 90 wickets in 97 matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.46. Such stellar performances for the Super Kings paved his way to represent Team India, where he continued to shine on global platforms.
Post his tenure with CSK, Ashwin expanded his IPL journey, representing teams like Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals. Notably, Rajasthan Royals retained him for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
Adding to his recent interactions, R Ashwin took a moment to appreciate MS Dhoni’s leadership prowess. Drawing an analogy, he likened Dhoni’s captaincy to that of a successful movie director, emphasizing his point with reference to Suresh Raina, as conveyed on his YouTube channel.
“Dhoni is not a captain. He is a director. He is actually a very, very good movie director like he is a director for the game. What does a movie director do? He picks characters, and he picks the exact cast for that character.”
“So, I think Dhoni, in his head, he picks a character, he knows where the character fits, who is the person for the character and gives that person the exact situation to play his role to the tee. That’s what I think he did with Suresh Raina (in the 2011 ODI World Cup.”
In his professional endeavors, Ashwin is set to participate in a five-match Test series against England, commencing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on January 25th.
