Rahul Dravid Backs Shubman Gill To Do Well In The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 is set to kick off on November 22, 2024, and cricket fans are brimming with excitement for the high-stakes Test series between India and Australia. Known for its intensity and riveting battles, the series has already sparked a flurry of comments from former cricketers.

Among them, Rahul Dravid, ex-Indian cricketer and former head coach, shared his insights on the upcoming tour. Addressing concerns about India’s No. 3 batting position after Cheteshwar Pujara’s absence, Dravid placed his faith in Shubman Gill. He praised Gill’s remarkable talent and contributions during India’s historic series win in Australia in 2020-21.

Recalling Gill’s pivotal 91-run knock on the fifth day at the Gabba, Dravid said, “Shubman is a terrific player, a great kid, and he’s learning. While he bats differently from me or Pujara, he’s still an exceptional player who can elevate our batting order.”

Importance of Top-Order Contributions

Dravid emphasized the crucial role of top-order runs in Australia’s challenging conditions. He pointed out that batters at the top need to neutralize the Kookaburra ball and weather the initial pressure to set the stage for the middle and lower-order batters. “Runs from the top-four are essential. Whether it’s one, two, three, or four, you need at least one or two players to have a standout series,” he explained.

A solid foundation allows the lower-order to exploit favorable conditions and control the game later. Dravid’s insights underline the necessity of resilience and patience from India’s top-order batters, which will be instrumental in countering Australia’s formidable bowling attack.

High Stakes for India

The BGT 2024-25 holds significant importance, with crucial World Test Championship (WTC) points on the line. After a disheartening home series loss to New Zealand, India is eager to rebound strongly against the Australians. The five-match series provides an opportunity for India to showcase their grit and resolve, especially in overseas conditions.

With a mix of young talent and experienced campaigners, India aims to deliver a commanding performance. As the cricketing world awaits this iconic clash, all eyes will be on the team’s ability to adapt and rise to the occasion in this fiercely contested rivalry.
