Rahul Dravid Shares His Experience Of Returning To The Auction After 8 Years

Former India cricketer Rahul Dravid shared his feelings about being part of the auction after an 8-year gap. Reflecting on life after the iconic T20 World Cup victory, Dravid spoke about enjoying time with his family while also expressing both jitters and excitement about the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Now starting a new chapter as Rajasthan Royals’ head coach, Dravid is in Jeddah for the IPL 2025 mega auction, scheduled for November 24 and 25. He commented:

“I haven’t attended an auction in a long time—about eight or nine years, to be precise. I remember being part of the first auction in 2008, and it felt strange and awkward back then. Over the years, teams have become more organized and prepared, and the process has become more professional.”

“While I wouldn’t say there are jitters, there’s certainly a level of excitement because you’re building a team. In our case, we’ve retained a strong core, so we’re a little more comfortable, but it’s important to think on your feet and adapt as surprises inevitably come up during the auction,” Dravid said.

“Excited to be back with the Royals”- Rahul Dravid

Dravid rejoined the franchise for the first time since 2015. He captained the Royals in 2012 and 2013 and later served as their mentor and Director of Cricket in 2014 and 2015 before transitioning to Delhi Capitals. After spending four more IPL seasons as head coach, Dravid took on the role of India U19 coach in 2019.

“I’m thrilled to return to Rajasthan Royals, where I played and mentored for years. Excited to reconnect, contribute to the team’s growth, and gear up for the auction and the early-start IPL,” he said.

Dravid reflected on his life after finishing his tenure as Team India coach. He further added:

“It took a few days to process the World Cup win, but things have slowed down, allowing more time at home. As a cricketer, you learn to move on, stay present, and embrace new challenges for growth.”
