According to BCCI, Rahul Dravid will continue as the coach of the Under 19 and India A teams for next two years. He began his coaching career for India A and Under 19 team in 2015, since then under his coaching, the Under 19 team reached the finals of World Cup held in Bangladesh last year. The Indian team lost to West Indies in the finals.
Rahul Dravid was offered 2 years contract to stay as the India A and Under 19 team coach. According to Lodha committee recommendations, Dravid new contract will be for 12 months every year instead of the 10 months. He will not be the mentor of the Delhi Daredevils franchise from next Indian Premier League.
“It was an honor and privilege to have Rahul Dravid as a mentor of the Delhi Daredevils over the last two years. We truly enjoyed our association and nurtured some great young talent together. We are sad that he will not continue with us as a mentor as he chooses to serve India A as a coach. Being a true servant of cricket, he believes he still has a lot to give back to the game and help nurture young India talent. We wish him all the best.”
Dravid next assignment India A tour of South Africa A starting from July 26th. He has done a great job for the India A team in the tri-series last year with the likes of Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya playing well and gaining a spot in the limited overs format.
This time in the India A squad the likes of Misbah Pant, Mohammed Siraj, Basil Thampi, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson will be there during that series. “Rahul Dravid is known for the discipline and commitment he brings to the table.
He has been successful in grooming the youngsters in the last two years. I wish him all the very best for his assignments with the two teams for the next two years,” Amitabh Choudhary, the BCCI acting secretary, said.
Rahul Dravid has done wonders for Indian young cricketers in the previous two years at the big stage. It is great to see such a big cricketer to give the youngsters tips and help to bring more young talents for the country in the upcoming two years. He was the mentor of Delhi Daredevils side and the likes of Pant, Sanju Samson performed well under his guidance.
