The IPL 2021 once again had a last over edge of the seat thriller as Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals played an exciting match in Mumbai. Unlike other matches at the Wankhede, this was a battle between the bowlers as it proved to be a low scoring thriller.

Batting first Delhi Capitals kept losing wickets but courtesy of an imposing half-century from their skipper Rishabh Pant managed to post a fighting total of 147 runs. The Delhi Capitals knew they needed early wickets in the chase as their bowlers did exactly that and dismissed the likes of Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson very early.

When it seemed DC would run away with the contest, David Miller came to the fore and smashed a brilliant 62 in 43 balls. Once he departed all hopes were on Chris Morris as Rajasthan Royals were banking on their all-rounder the big finish.

Who Said What?

Morris delivered and did that in emphatic fashion as played a blazing cameo of 36 in mere 18 balls and helped the Royals win their first match of IPL 2021. Meanwhile, here’s what Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant said in the post-match presentation. Jaydev Unadkat was adjudged the player of the match for his match-winning bowling effort of 3 for 15 in 4 overs.

“The bowlers did a good job at the start, but we let them get over us in the end. We could have bowled a bit better. It’s part and parcel of the game and dew played a big role in the end. We were 15-20 runs short. But at least there is something to gain from this match, the bowlers did a great job at the start. Hopefully, if something like this happens we can pull it off. In the second innings, there was much more dew, so the slower ball wasn’t stopping. So we had to something in the second innings”, said Rishabh Pant.

“Had some hopes with Miller and Morris to come but to be really honest I thought that it was tough from there and I think the boys did really well to get over the line. It’s about reading the conditions. Was a bit sticky to start with. Hard lengths and mixing up with the variations was the key. That’s also our strength – three left-armers. They are slightly different from the other so we can use it in a different way. We had a chat with him, he was very confident and very clear (Sakariya). Can’t do much, was just praying inside. Always sit back and review my game. If I play that match again 100 times I would not take the single (on denying strike to Morris last time)”, said Samson.

“Have a lot of experience now I can say of handling tough situations. Was kind of a homecoming for me. Was bowling with the kind of freedom I wanted with the new ball. Couldn’t do that last season. Had to step up this time. Didn’t get the first game so I knew the chances when they come, I have to take them. If you see the stats I think I only bowled about four-five change of pace. It was about hitting the hard lengths, hitting good lengths because it was doing a bit. Feel there was a bit of moisture. Made good use of it”, said Unadkat.
