Ramesh Powar will oversee the Women”s camp at NCA, Bangalore from July 25. Most of the members of the squad will be taking part in this camp except Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur as they are off to England to represent in KIA Super League.

The BCCI has already invited applications for the post of the full-time coach with July 20 as a deadline. Though the list of candidates is unclear, as per BCCI rules a candidate “should have coached a first-class state team or international team in the past”. This statement might see Powar out of contention until and unless special conditions play a role.

Ramesh Powar wasn”t given the responsibility of coaching the Mumbai Ranji Team as he quit as the spin consultant of the academy in February. Vinayak Samant was appointed the coach as other contenders like Pravin Amre opted out of the contest.

With women”s T20 World cup not too far, the team is in a dire need of an experienced coach to make an impact in the ICC tournament. India ended as runners-up on the ICC World cup 2017 in England. They narrowly lost to Bangladesh in the recently concluded Asia Cup and the team is really in need of a motivated guide to keep them back on track.

It will be interesting to see how Ramesh Powar can groom the squad before any further appointments from BCCI.
