Afghanistan”s World Cup campaign could be termed nothing but a disaster. The intent wasn”t visible in the side and they looked so fragile in all the games they played. Barring one or two players, others weren”t able to maintain their consistency which ultimately led to their downfall. After a disappointing tournament, Afghanistan Cricket Board has now appointed Rashid Khan as the skipper for all three formats of the game. It is to be noted that the side wasn”t able to register even a single victory in the tournament.
Though they gave a tough fight against India and Pakistan, they remained toothless in remaining games of the tournament. Bad decisions, lack of proper planning and controversies played a crucial role in their forgettable World Cup campaign.
Gulbadin Naib, who was appointed as the skipper prior to the World tournament hasn”t proved his worth either with the bat or the ball. His appointment wasn”t even liked by a lot of teammates and this created certain conflicts within the side. Not just this, the sudden exit of Mohammed Shahzad and Aftab Alam aren”t still properly justified by the ACB management.
On the other hand, former skipper Asghar Afghan has been appointed as the deputy to Rashid. It will really be a huge responsibility for them to bring back the morale of the team and get back to their previous ways of troubling the opponents. Further developments on the news are still expected.
Coach Phil Simmons had already mentioned that he has something to say on the things happening in the dressing room. He said that he will be announcing them right after the tournament. All eyes on his statement on the issues happening within the side.
