Afghanistan has named their 15-player squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, which will take place in Sharjah from September 18 to 22. A number of senior players, including Gulbadin Naib and Mohammad Nabi, have kept their positions.
After missing the team’s last ODI series against Ireland and one-off Test against New Zealand for a back problem, Rashid Khan is back in the side. Mentions must be made that Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Ibrahim Zadran did not turn up.
The spinner is still nursing a right phalanx sprain while left-footed Zadran is out due to an ankle sprain. Abdul Malik and Darwish Rasooli have been called to take their places in the squad.
Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil, Afghanistan’s chief selector, made the statement while unveiling the squad:
“Mujeeb Ur Rahman continues to recover from his injury and is unavailable for selection. Ibrahim Zadran will also miss the South Africa ODIs for twisting his ankle on the edge of the New Zealand Test.”
“However, we have included some of the top-performing youngsters in Abdul Malik and Darwish Rasooli. Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar is also a talented cricketer and has demonstrated excellent skills recently and will cover for Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the series.”
Happy with our Squad for the @ProteasMenCSA ODIs? 🏏
