India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja faces uncertainty regarding his participation in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. This doubt stems from a hamstring issue he suffered on the fourth day of the initial Test in Hyderabad. After being run out by Ben Stokes for a mere two runs during India’s chase, Jadeja displayed signs of a pulled hamstring as he left the field.
Although India’s head coach Rahul Dravid did not disclose detailed information about the injury, news agency PTI reported that it remains unclear whether Jadeja will travel with the team to Vizag or head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further assessment.
Even if Ravindra Jadeja’s injury is deemed a strain rather than a tear, there is a possibility that he might be advised to rest for at least a week. The tight turnaround between the first and second Tests, with less than a week between them, adds complexity to the decision-making process. Notably, Jadeja had already missed the first Test against South Africa in Centurion in December 2023 due to a back spasm.
Rahul Dravid said: “We’ll see. I honestly haven’t had a chance to speak to the physio as yet. Once I get back, I’ll speak to him and see what it is about”
In the Hyderabad Test, Ravindra Jadeja contributed significantly to India’s first innings total of 436 with an impressive knock of 87. However, England’s Ollie Pope played a crucial role in the second innings, scoring a century and helping his team set a challenging target of 231 for India.
Despite the efforts of spinner Tom Hartley, who took 7/62, India fell short, being dismissed for 202. The upcoming second Test in Vizag is scheduled to commence on 2 February, adding an element of uncertainty to Jadeja’s availability for the crucial match.
