Each team is deliberating on how many players to keep, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) facing the toughest decision. Currently, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj are certain to be retained, but uncertainties linger around Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Will Jacks.
Glenn Maxwell had a disappointing 2024 season, scoring only 129 runs in 10 matches and taking just six wickets. During the season, Maxwell also took a break for mental health reasons. Although he returned for some important matches, his performance did not improve.
Maxwell’s poor performance has almost guaranteed that RCB will not retain him. Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj are confirmed to stay with the team. The franchise also considered retaining Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, but his injury complicates matters, leaving uncertainty about whether RCB will take the risk on him.
According to Cricket Australia, Green has been ruled out of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy and is expected to miss six months of play due to an injury sustained during the ODI series against England earlier this year. He is anticipated to recover by March 2025, but it remains to be seen if RCB will gamble on him.
The BCCI has permitted each franchise to retain up to six players, including a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players. According to the guidelines, retention costs will be ₹18 crore for the first player, ₹14 crore for the second, ₹11 crore for the third, and ₹18 crore and ₹14 crore for the fourth and fifth players, respectively.
An IPL auction will take place in Riyadh in November 2024
We previously reported that the BCCI plans to hold the IPL mega auction in Riyadh this year. While an official announcement is pending, preparations are underway for a smooth auction process in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The auction is expected to take place on November 24 and 25, coinciding with the first Test between India and Australia, which starts on November 22 in Perth.
