Reports of differences in the Indian team is doing the rounds and BCCI has finally stepped in. Two of the senior-most players in the side- Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been involved in a tug of war when it comes to leading the country.
“Crack” in the Indian dressing room
Under Kohli”s captaincy, India made it to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup before crashing out against New Zealand in agonizing fashion. Vice-captain Rohit Sharma plundered the opposition bowling attacks and collected five centuries.
According to reports- Rohit was in contention for captain”s role in the white-ball formats while Kohli was supposed to take charge of the team in Tests. But the management has eliminated all such talks and Kohli was named the captain in all three formats.
BCCI to intervene amidst Kohli-Rohit rift
As per reports, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri will fly to the US next week. He will speak to the team and resolve the issues. India will travel to the US to play a series of two T20Is in Florida.
“In today”s age when support groups get involved, things can get messy. Both are mature individuals and things should be back on track after being spoken with,” a BCCI source told India Today.
In the recently concluded World Cup, Kohli played the role of the second fiddle. And on certain occasions, he went public while praising his deputy. He termed Rohit as the best ODI player in the world.
“It”s great that Rohit is so consistent. We are doing the best for the team and in that process, special things happen. Hope Rohit gets two more hundreds so we can get two more wins. He is the top ODI player in the world” Kohli had said ahead of the semi-finals.
The upcoming series will test Kohli”s mettle as a leader as he has got a point to prove. With the management showing faith in him, Kohli would like to put an end to all such speculations with impressive wins abroad.
